Aimé Césaire media library
Blanzat - France

Date: 2013
Client: Clermont communauté
Net area: 1400 m² SHON
Cost: 2.5 M€ HT
Mission: design, construction supervision
Located in the hilly volcanic Auvergne region of central France, the media library and multifunction hall acts as a cultural anchor for the region’s wide reader and user base. The building’s hybrid structure of concrete (lower level) and wood framing (upper level) was the result of seismic factors, and serves to detach the upper level of administrative areas and lofty consultation spaces from the more grounded and smaller-scale public spaces below. Sustainability guidelines were respected, through the use of renewable building materials and underground rainwater retention systems.
